Would you like to know how to apply traditional martial arts in real violent situations?
David Oakley is an experienced traditional martial artist who, over the years, has specialised in Wado Ryu Karate but has also practiced many other martial arts, including Japanese Jujitsu, Jujutsu, and dirty boxing. He is the author of Hard Target, a book on how to stay safe on the street for frontline staff and people of all ages who want to avoid getting into dangerous situations in the first place.
David draws on his experience working as a bouncer for 15 years on the doors of pubs and clubs, working both in teams and on one-man doors. One-man doors are not for the faint-hearted. David has also worked as a security surveillance officer for London Clubs International, one of the UK’s largest casino operators.
If you want you and your students to really understand how to apply traditional martial arts in real violent situations, then David is one of the top instructors in the UK to learn from.

Fitness for the Martial Artist
Why Fitness Matters More Than Ever for the Traditional Martial Artist There is an old saying that martial arts is a journey for life. It sounds good on a poster, but it only becomes real when you are still stepping onto the dojo floor twenty, thirty or even forty...
The Hidden History of Wado Ryu
The Hidden History of Wado Ryu Karate From Japanese Jujutsu to Okinawa and Ancient China Most karate practitioners know that Wado Ryu was founded by Hironori Otsuka, but far fewer understand just how unique its origins really are. Unlike many karate styles that...
Permanent Alert The Martial Mind
Permanent Alert — The Martial Mind There was a time when danger had a beginning and an end. Now it hums in the background like breath you never release. In the dojo, this would be called unfinished posture. In life, it has become normal. We did not arrive in crisis....

The Decline of Discipline: How Modern Martial Artists Have Let Their Bodies Go
Martial arts have always been revered as a blend of physical prowess, mental discipline, and spiritual growth. The ancient warriors who practiced these martial arts were not just fighters but embodiments of discipline, strength, and agility. However, as we navigate through the modern era of martial arts, it is disheartening to witness a growing trend among some martial arts teachers and practitioners who have let their physical condition deteriorate, failing to uphold the true essence of a martial artist.
We’re not only passionate about martial arts but also committed to making a positive impact on the world. We proudly support the Keep Me Breathing charity, dedicated to children suffering from Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS), commonly known as Ondine’s curse. CCHS is a rare and challenging condition that robs children of their ability to sense oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in their bodies, resulting in a lifelong dependence on mechanical ventilation to breathe during sleep and, in some cases, when awake. However, CCHS isn’t just a respiratory ailment; it also brings a heightened risk of tumors, such as Neuroblastoma, a form of cancer. At Traditional Martial Arts World, we believe in using our platform to raise awareness, support those in need, and bring hope to the children affected by CCHS. Join us in our mission to make a difference in the lives of these brave warriors and support Keep Me Breathing today.
